Michelle Newell

Michelle Newell is a Senior Policy Associate with The Children’s Defense Fund – California (CDF-CA) in Los Angeles. At CDF-CA, through a focus on Los Angeles County’s juvenile justice system and statewide policy, Michelle has spent the past five years working on ending the harmful punitive incarceration model, investing in community based solutions, protecting the dignity and humanity of system-involved youth, and ensuring juvenile justice systems are fair, accountable, and data-driven. Michelle has a Master of Public Policy degree from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Berkeley. Prior to working at CDF-CA, Michelle worked on promoting educational equity in California.​
